When Michael Wilson arrived from Houston's Alley Theatre to take away over Hartford Stage in 1998, he was recognized as an energetic, buoyant wunderkind -- a overwhelming people-person very of ideas, projects and dreams. Under Wilson's leadership, Hartford Stage has focused on the evolution of redesigned work, with 14 time premieres, eight different festivals, six Broadway or Off-Broadway transfers, as well as the origin of the Hartford Courant's 2005-Tapestry bestow sweet tutoring and community outreach programs. Wilson's occupation has been occupied from the start. He expanded the count of the productions to number a event extravaganza, which provides a stable, annual documentation of profits; a summer series of shows; and the dinghy of his multi-year Tennessee Williams Marathon.
He brought noteworthy actors and playwrights to its stages as parts introduced here moved on to other stages, including Broadway. He also started a uncharted annual Christmas tradition, "A Christmas Carol." Wilson's awards contain the Daryl Roth 2002 Creative Spirit Award, Lincoln Center Theater; the Princess Grace Foundation, 2001 Statue Award and 1992 Theatre fellowship; and numerous awards from the Connecticut Critics Circle, including the 2005 Tom Killen Award for Outstanding Contribution to Connecticut Theatre.
